Biography

Andrew of Chios (1438–1465) was a saint of the Catholic Church. At the age of 27, he arrived in Constantinople as a pilgrim. He was offered the opportunity to join the Ottoman army, but he refused. For this, he was sentenced to death by beheading. He was buried in the Church of Saint Mary on the Bosphorus. He is venerated as a saint, and his feast day is celebrated on May 29.
