Saint Anastasius of Cluny

Anastasius of Cluny, O.S.B. (Venice, Italy, 11th century; Pamiers, modern-day France, 1085), was a scholar who joined the monastery of Mont-Saint-Michel (France) and later lived as a hermit on a neighboring island, until Hugh of Cluny visited him and persuaded him to join the Benedictines of Cluny. However, he occasionally returned to live in solitude. He has long been venerated by the Catholic Church as a saint. His feast day is celebrated on October 16.
