Biography

Agatha of Our Lady of the Virtues Hernández Amorós (born January 5, 1893; died August 19, 1936) was a Spanish blessed of the Catholic Church and a nun of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity. In Cullera, she worked as a cook and, despite increasing persecution, did not leave her community. She was murdered on the beach of Playa del Saler near Valencia. She is one of the victims of the anti-Catholic religious persecution during the Spanish Civil War. Agatha of Our Lady of the Virtues Hernández Amorós was beatified by John Paul II on March 11, 2001, as a martyr killed in hatred of the faith (odium fidei) among the 232 companions of José Aparicio Sanz.
