Biography

Agathangelus of Vendôme, born François Nouri, was a Franciscan priest of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, born on July 31, 1598, in Vendôme and died on October 7, 1629, in Gondar. As a Catholic missionary, he attempted to evangelize Ethiopia, then under the rule of the Aksumite Empire. He was falsely accused by local authorities of preaching the Catholic religion to the Copts. Prior to this, he spent time in Syria, where he worked with his fellow student Cassian of Nantes toward the reconciliation of Western and Eastern Christians.
